The Pain of Not Knowing
"Epic Quotes" is a category all by itself. There are some quotes you just need to have down somewhere where you can revisit it over and over again and share with friends. Here we're keeping track of some of our favorite quotes. We might offer commentary below the quote, or give you the commentary of someone else on the quote, like this one.

"The wounds of all humanity are an unanswered question."
-Nicholas Wolterstorff, Lament for a Son
Perhaps the best commentary here is to let Wolsterstorff give his own. His beautiful and thoughtful book is just what the title communicates; a father lamenting the death of his son. Here is the paragraph from which the quote is taken. We highly recommend this book.
"C.S. Lewis, writing about the death of his wife, was plainly angry with God. He, Lewis, deserved something better than to be treated so shabbily. I am not angry but baffled and hurt. My wound is an unanswered question. The wounds of all humanity are an unanswered question." (p.68)
